How to Choose the Right Pool Shape for Your Backyard

Looking forward to transforming a backyard with customized landscaping can be a wonderful adventure that ignites creativity. But one of the most important aspects of creating a beautiful Charlotte swimming pool is the pool shape. While almost any shape imaginable can be applied to a pool, certain shapes can suit a particular backyard better than others.

1. Rectangular pools. A rectangle is the most obvious, popular, and oldest shape for a Charlotte swimming pool. It works best with a geometric landscape or in a small space as a lap pool. Another variation of the rectangular pool shape is an L-shaped pool, which fits best into a similarly shaped yard.

2. Kidney-shaped pools. A kidney pool shape has a complete lack of corners and sharp angles. This means that pairing it with a contemporary yard that does not have strict geometric lines would be best. Many people choose the kidney pool shape because it seems safer. The fact that there are no sharp edges and that the deep and shallow ends of the pool can be clearly marked makes this an excellent pool for families with children.

3. Roman and Grecian. A Roman pool shape is symmetrical like a rectangle on its sides, but adds semi circles at the ends with rounded corners. A Grecian look is similar, appearing as a rectangle with the corners trimmed off. These pool shapes complement classical architecture and landscaping.

4. Freeform. A freeform pool has no geometric limitations on shape, so the sky is the limit when designing one of these. They are best utilized in natural landscapes, as they give the impression of a pond. Waterfalls, stones, and other earthy features can add to the natural beauty of a freeform pool shape. Many people choose to design their own freeform shape, making their pool match not only the character of the yard, but the personal preference of the owner.
